Maggie Quirk is a chocolatier based in Tamworth. She’s been hand pouring her organic raw chocolate for more than five years for her brand, Deva Cacao. Her business was featured on the Buy From The Bush Social Media right around Easter 2020. One image of her delectable chocolate Easter bunnies started a run on bank.
“We had more online orders in 48 hours than we did in three years of business! Easter looked like it was going to be a flop because of the first Australian lockdown, but it ended up becoming a big victory for us.”
Most Australians remember that time as an Easter in lockdown, but Maggie remembers it as the moment when her business went from a small endeavour to larger enterprise.
“We were able to employ our first two staff members in quick succession. Now we have five and counting."
Maggie’s latest business expansion is a dream realised in the form of a chocolate manufacturing space and chocolate cafe in an iconic building in the heart of Tamworth.
“I've loved this building since I was a teenager. We are thrilled to be working alongside Weswal Gallery with space to grow our business.” She and her husband Ming now open the doors for trade Monday to Saturday and all Deva Cacao chocolate is made onsite.
Deva Cacao was awarded the Gold and Bronze medals in 2021 by the Clean + Conscious Awards for their Organic Medjool Date chocolate and 85g Macadamia bar as well as an Accolade in the Packaging and Design category of the Australian Good Design Awards in 2020.
